Rachel Deaton

Psychodynamic counselling based in Hertfordshire or online.

I offer counselling for people aged 16 and over, providing a calm, supportive space where you can talk openly, make sense of what you are experiencing and begin to understand what you might need.

I particularly welcome young people and university students who may be navigating pressures around education, relationships, identity, independence, family life or decisions about the future.

People come to me for many different reasons, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, family or relationship difficulties, school or university stress, and postnatal concerns.

You do not need to have a diagnosis, or even know exactly what is wrong, before coming to counselling. Sometimes simply knowing that things do not feel right is enough of a place to begin.

Together, we can explore what is happening for you at a pace that feels manageable, without judgement or pressure to have all the answers.

I welcome clients from all racial, cultural and national backgrounds and aim to provide a space in which difference aspects of identity and experience can be explored openly. I recognise that our culture, heritage, family experiences and sense of identity can all influence the way we experience ourselves, our relationships and the world around us.

What is Psychodynamic counselling?

Psychodynamic counselling is a form of therapy that considers how our past experiences and relationships, including those we may not be consciously aware of, can continue to influence how we feel, behave and relate to ourselves and others today.

Developing an awareness of these patterns can help us gain deeper understanding of ourselves and create the possibility for change.
